Eye-catching carving brings old tree stump back to life

April 11, 2017

Hedge End, West End & Botley Local Area Committee provided funding to commission Richard Austin, a local wood carver and designer to produce an eye-catching piece or artwork that has been well received by local residents .

Following the death of a lovely old Oak tree at Shafford Meadows in Hedge End the stump has been carved into a unique design that reflects Hedge End’s history. When an old tree dies we would encourage retaining stumps and deadwood whenever it is safe to do so, so that they can provide superb habitat and are a wonderful ecological resource.
