May 14, 2017
By

Mo Sollitt

Councillor Maureen Sollitt was invested as the Borough of Eastleigh’s First Citizen at the annual Mayor Making ceremony at The King’s Community Church, Hedge End.

Maureen, who likes to be known as  Mo, has been a Borough Councillor for 21 years and previously held the office of Mayor in 2001-2.

Mo was born in Shawford, near Winchester, and grew up in the village of Colden Common. She moved to Eastleigh in 1959 where she met her husband Roy, who served in the Merchant Navy.  Maureen’s family have lived in Eastleigh and have been involved in the railway for nearly 100 years.  Mo and Roy have been married for 48 years and have three children and seven grandchildren.

Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Mo Sollitt, said:

‘I’m just as excited about my second Mayoral year as I was 16 years ago. I’m really looking forward to representing the borough and promoting so many good things that the borough has to offer.

‘In particular I’m looking forward to meeting local residents, organisations and businesses that make up this great borough and I’m also looking forward to promoting and supporting my nominated charities’.

Mo has served on a number of Borough Council committees and, in addition to these duties, is Chair of Allbrook and North Boyatt Parish Council.  She has been a governor of both Shakespeare Infant and Junior Schools and is a trustee of the Friends of In Touch – a charity that provides support for emotionally and socially vulnerable children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions.

Mo has a particular interest in health- and wellbeing-related issues and has found time to work as a carer to many people with a range of needs over the years.

Councillor Chris Thomas, who represents Eastleigh North ward was invested as Deputy Mayor for the year.
