Blood & Valour Writer joins Southampton’s Festival

October 9, 2017

Blood & Valour: Legends of the Knight Sir Bevis will be making a guest appearance at this month’s SO: To Speak, Southampton’s Festival of Words.

Writer Matt Beames will be reading excerpts from the thrilling comic and talking through its stunning illustrations at Southampton Waterstone’s in Westquay on 24 October at 6pm. The event is free.

The talk is part of SO: To Speak festival, which celebrates the creativity, talent and heritage of Southampton and its surrounding area, and takes place in a number of venues in the city from the 19 to 28 October.
The festival started in 2015 and has grown into a 10-day event that features an extensive programme, with local and nationally-renowned authors. It is supported by Arts Council England.

Speaking about the event, Matt, who is writer-in-residence at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End, said:

‘It’s fantastic to be part of an emerging and exciting festival, especially one so close to home.

‘When I first began researching Blood & Valour in 2015 I attended the launch event for ‘Sir Bevis of Hampton’ by Lynn-Forest Hill as part of SO: To Speak, so I my own experience with the story very much ties into the festival.

‘It’s great to be able to introduce local people to a local legend that they may well be unfamiliar with.’
