Seven-year clean sweep for Eastleigh’ StreetScene team

December 14, 2017
By

Eastleigh’s StreetScene team is celebrating picking up a prestigious national award – for the seventh year running.

The Borough Council’s Street Cleansing Service was again declared Best Overall Performer by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) at an awards ceremony in Blackpool. The team first picked up the award in 2011.

Further success was achieved by the authority’s Parks, Open Spaces and Waste & Recycling Services teams, who were ‘highly commended’ at the same event, having made the list of finalists in the Best Overall Performer and Most Improved categories.

APSE is the organisation dedicated to promoting quality in the delivery of frontline services to local communities. Its awards are based on independently verified data, assessed against a range of performance indicators, including quality, value-for-money and the way an organisation develops its workforce.

With a seven-year clean sweep, Eastleigh’s StreetScene Services’ achievement is unsurpassed. In a competition that attracts submissions from more than 250 local authorities across the UK, no other council service in the country has been voted the UK’s Best Street Cleansing Service more than twice.

Eastleigh Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment & Sustainability, Councillor Rupert Kyrle, congratulated the teams. He said:

‘Our teams take huge pride in keeping Eastleigh’s neighbourhoods and shopping centres pleasant places to live, work and visit. Being voted the UK’s best street cleansing service for the seventh year running – and performing so well in other categories – reflects their hard work and dedication and is a real feather in the Borough’s cap.’
