It has been announced that one of Eastleigh’s Normandy Veterans Samuel ‘Harry’ Gerrard has passed away at the Fleming House nursing home, Heron Square at the age of 89.

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne paid a tribute to the ex serviceman saying:

“Harry was rightly proud of his role in the Normandy landings that did so much to change the course of history and secure our freedoms for future generations, and he was a great supporter of the Normandy Veterans Association including visiting the beaches again in later life.”

“His large family and friends in Eastleigh will mourn the passing of someone who made a difference to many people’s lives”

How sad to hear of Harry’s passing. My thoughts and best wishes go to Harry’s family and friends. A true gentleman and a great loss. RIP.
