A 35-YEAR-OLD Eastleigh man who raped a woman in her flat in Eastbourne has been given a four-and-a-half year jail sentence it has been reported in the Bexhill-on-Sea Observer
Matthew John Cook, of Chandler’s Ford, was visiting a friend in Eastbourne when the attack happened on October 2008.
Cook was charged with two counts of rape to which he pleaded ‘not guilty’ and was tried at Lewes Crown Court on March 22 where he was acquitted on the first count but found guilty on the second.
He was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Monday morning (27 April) to four and half year’s imprisonment.
Passing sentence Judge Guy Anthony said:
“Rape is a serious offence which always results in a custodial sentence”
