Earlier that morning the shop worker, a 43-year-old man from Southampton, had caught a man attempting to leave the store without paying for a sandwich. He took the sandwich from the man, who then left the store.
The man then returned to the store moments later and threatened the shop worker with a knife.

  • Early twenties
  • Wearing a grey jumper and dark trousers
  • Wearing a grey hat
  • Collar length, brown hair
  • Looks like he may sleep rough
  • Carrying a large, black backpack
Officers would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the shops early this morning, and saw what happened, or who recognises the description of this man.
Detective Inspector Toby Elcock said: “The shop worker in this incident, although not injured, has been extremely shaken up by what has happened. Do you recognise the man we need to talk to? If he sleeps rough, do you know where? Please don’t approach this man, but call us and tell us what you know.”
