An  Eastleigh angler has landed Farmoor Reservoir’s biggest ever fish – a brown trout which weighed in at a staggering 17.5lb.

Fly  fisherman  Richard  Martin  hooked  the  monster from the banks of the
Oxford beauty spot.

His  catch  broke  the  reservoir’s  previous  record – another brown trout
caught in October 2008 – by 3Ib.

Mr  Martin,  28,   said:  “This was by far the biggest  fish I’ve ever caught. As it got closer I thought: ‘Blimey, it’s a whopper!’ It was a great feeling.

“I  fish  all  over  the country and Farmoor is the best fly-fishing spot I
know.”

Matt Prior, conservation manager at the reservoir, which is owned by Thames Water,  said: “Farmoor is getting a name for seriously big trout. There are plenty more out there waiting to be caught.”

Farmoor  is  stocked  annually  with  30,000 high-quality rainbow and brown trout that double in weight by the end of the season.
