Keith is still our Leader!

How come they don't share it out like the Mayor's job?

The leader of Eastleigh Liberal Democrats Keith House has been re-elected in his absence -as leader of the Eastleigh Borough Council – in a unanimous and unopposed vote.

The annual general meeting of Eastleigh Borough Council, the first full council meeting to be presided over by new Mayor John Caldwell, was held at the Civic Offices yesterday and managed to get through the agenda in less than 15 minutes – all items being approved either unanimously or by a clear majority, unopposed and without the need of debate.

The Lib Dem councillor for Bishopstoke West, Anne Winstanley, was also re elected as Deputy leader and the chairs and members of various committees and panels were appointed while the six newly elected councillors had a chance to introduce themselves.

There are now 39 ruling Liberal Democrat Councilors with the opposition consisting of just 4 Conservatives and one Labour councillor.

The next full Council meeting will be on July22.

Well, I think it would be fair if they all had a go, what do you think?

Seems democracy has gone astray in Eastleigh.
    Dictatorship comes to mind…
He didn’t even turn up on the night!

The Tories began to destroy democracy in 1972 with the European Communities Act. This transferred legislative power from Parliament to a FOREIGN power (Europe). Labour supported this treason while in office. Eventually the electorate sussed out it made no difference whether they elected Con or Lab into government. Perhaps they even understood the reason: That we are governed by Europe (so no change is possible).

The LibDems filled the democratic vacuum left by the Tories and Labour. This is according to the wishes of the electorate. Who are we to criticize it? If the Tories want power locally then let them work for it! The only time we see a Tory leaflet through our door is at election time. All they want is our votes without having to work for them.

Compare this to the LibDems. They have leafleted consistently for 20 years! Every few months, year after year. They put the work in. They get the results. That is why they run Eastleigh. That is why Keith House DESERVES to be leader and why Chris Huhne deserves to be our MP. Because (with one or two exceptions) the Tories cannot be bothered to get off their fat arses and work for Eastleigh. If they cannot be bothered to put leaflets through our doors throughout the year, then it is obvious they cannot be bothered to work on our behalf if elected. THAT is the plain truth like it or not.

Now,lets see.Peter Stewart I thought you were a Ukip supporter, yet you are praising a pro European party. The Lib Dems put more leaflets out because they have pots of money to back them locally.I wonder where that comes from.Come on Peter, admit you are a Europhile, you do not fool me!

Oh David! My words are a double edged sword: They cut BOTH ways! But you know that already! At least the LibDems are honest about their Europhile policy. Labour are in the middle. By far the most dangerous is that ragged Europhile wolf which hides behind the Conservative sheep’s clothing.

OhPeter, now were getting more to the truth behind your messages! Now,the’Ragged Europhile Wolf’ which hides behind the Conservative Sheep’s clothing. The vast majority of Conservative MP’s and supporters are Eurosceptic. The Europhile contingent is only I would say 5% of the entire party. You know this ,everybody knows this.Even the LibDems know this,so it stands to reason you MUST know this. You are just pro Europe and a LibDem,come on admit it!

I think you are quite correct in what you say David. 5% of the Tory party is Pro EU.
However it is this 5% of the party which is in charge and sat around the Cabinet table with the pro EU Lib Dems.
This must grate with the 95% Blue rank and file.
The question is what are they going to do about it?

Rubbish Peter.I would say one member of the ‘Cabinet’ Ken Clarke is pro Europe. All the other Europhiles are back benchers, and a few lost their seats at the last election. The rank and file members and the vast majority of the conservative front bench are very Eurosceptic and thanks to them we will not join the Euro,we are totally against closer ties and intergration. The Conservatives are the right and only defence of the majority of the people of the UK who want to keep the pound and not become part of a ‘greater Europe’.

Lord Chancellor Ken Clark is a noted Euro enthusiast and as such is president of the pro eu Tory Reform Group, vice president is Damian Green – immigration minister the other vice president is whatisname
who is also in the cabinet. Ken Clark is also president of the ‘Conservative Europe Group’ which includes foreign secretary William Haugue as a member.
It might have escaped your notice but the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg is also a Europhile as is the Energy Minister Chris Huhne.
Nicolas Szarkozy said of your man last week ‘He may be a eurosceptic now, but he will soon be a pro european’ – of course he will.
