Man released after ‘gunshot’ incident

A man arrested after an alleged firearm incident in Eastleigh has been released on bail until August 3, pending further enquiries.

The 40 year old local man was questioned by detectives throughout yesterday, Wednesday, June 16, following reports that a man claimed he had been threatened by another man who he alleges fired shots at him in Mitchell Road, Eastleigh at around 2am.

Officers investigating the alleged incident conducted a thorough ‘finger-tip’ search of the area but no firearms were recovered. Certain items were recovered from the scene that may assist with the police investigation but these were not of an explosive nature.

Detectives are now following up a number of lines of enquiry to try and corroborate the allegations.

Officers are keen to reassure members of the public that there is no evidence or information to suggest that they might be at risk, and no-one who was in the area at the time of the alleged incident has reported hearing any gun-shots.

If anyone does have information that will assist the police with their enquiries, they are asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
