Floristy students bloom at Eastleigh

Floristry students at Eastleigh College celebrated the end of the academic year at Eastleigh College, with an awards ceremony and summer themed floral demonstration by designer David Martin, a Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medallist. The evening took place at the College main campus to a packed audience of local florists and students’ friends and family.

Designer David Martin, demonstrated his work, and the students had the opportunity to showcase their achievements, with many beautiful pieces were on display for all to admire. Many of these were competition pieces entered into 10 categories, judged by a panel of Eastleigh College Floristry department staff and staff from local florist retailer, Judy Webb. These categories included best hand tied for a celebrity, best design for the World Cup after party and best West End Show arrangement.

Level 3 Floristry student, Shelley-Anne Read was winner in the category of A Body Adornment. Shelley-Anne also won the Best in Show with her beautiful peacock themed display. An ecstatic Cibele DeSouza, Level 2 Floristry Student, won best Themed Table Centre piece with a vibrant, tropical display.

Lisa Crook, Floristry Course Manager at Eastleigh College said:

‘The students have done us proud with their fantastic competition pieces, and help with the preparation for the evening. It was a very vibrant evening, with lots to see and talk about. I hope it has inspired more students to take up the rewarding floristry profession.’
