In a defensive and physical match between the two top ten Blue Square
In a defensive and physical match between the two top ten Blue Square sides, Braintree Town managed to pip Eastleigh with a 1 – 0 victory at Cressing Road.
Spitfire’s goalie Gareth Barfoot had some early work to do and Braintree had a penalty denied on 30 minutes following a tussle in the box.
The first half saw Eastleigh’s Slabber test the keeper while Chris Holland came close with his head as did Jamie Brown in the second.
After the break Braintree gradually saw more of the play which resulted in the winner being scored ten minutes from time when hot shot Sean Marks put away his ninth goal in nine games for the Essex side.
With minutes to go Jamie Brown almost equalised when he connected with a header from sub Anthony Riviere but Braintree keeper McDonald managed to divert to see ‘The Iron’ retain their second place overall standing.
