AFC Stoneham move to Pirelli ground

AFC Stoneham kicked off the new season in style after their future was safeguarded thanks to the efforts of Prysmian – formerly Pirelli Cables.

AFC Stoneham from Eastleigh faced the real prospect of going out of existence when` they were served notice from their home at Stoneham Park, Eastleigh at the end of the 2009/10 season.

Eastleigh Borough Council took swift action to try and help secure the future of this popular community football club and with support from Prysmian Cables the Hampshire Premier League team have found a new home at the former Pirelli Sports ground on Chestnut Avenue owned by Prysmian Cables.

AFC Stoneham Chairman James Banks, says, “It’s been a real rush to get ready for the facilities for the new season with a lot of hard work from a lot of people. But we have made it and we are absolutely thrilled to be kicking off the season at this fantastic facility. He added ”We would like to extend our heart felt thanks to Eastleigh Borough Council and Prysmian for all their help and support.”

Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee Cllr Chris Thomas says “We are delighted that the Council working in partnership with Prysmian Cables have been able to safeguard the future of this local community football club. The Council is committed to the provision of high quality community sports clubs and facilities and it’s great to see an area that had become tired and fallen into disrepair has been rejuvenated to provide such an excellent community sporting facility.”
