Video footage has emerged of yesterdays fire at Valey Park.
Hampshire Fire and rescue service were called to a house in Swale Drive Chandlers Ford at 5.30 yesterday morning.
The roof of the detached house – where the average value of a property is £280K – was well ablaze with the entire roof engulfed in flame.
The occupants had fled the fire and raised the alarm.
Fire-fighters using 10 breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using 4 jets and 2 hose reels. Four fire engines attended from Eastleigh and Romsey and the Special Equipment Unit from St Marys also attended.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway and the house, which has lost its roof, is still cordoned off.
Fortunately there are no reports of any injury.
Roof fires appear to be becoming increasingly common, hopefully this home will have been insured and the cost of both repair and temporary accommodation for the occupants will be met in full but it is incredible to think that more than one in three homes in the UK are uninsured while many more properties go underinsured.
Valuations dont always keep up with inflation and some landlords don’t realise that their standard insurance does not cover occupation by tennants.
This unfortunate incident is a reminder that fire can strike anywhere at any time.
