Despite steadily falling passenger numbers throughout 2010 – which saw passenger traffic well below the highs of 2007/08 -Eastleigh based Southampton Airport has announced plans to recruit 100 new employees throughout 2011 to join the team of 1,200 staff.
The roles will be spread across airport’s 30 different companies, which all contribute to the successful running of the airport.
To kick-start the recruitment drive, the airport is hosting the first ever ‘Southampton Airport Careers Fair’ on Wednesday 12th January from 10am – 3pm in the Spitfire Meeting Room in the airport terminal. The event is open to all, and is an opportunity to discover more about the variety of permanent and seasonal roles which will be available in the forthcoming year. Employers will include; BAA (the airport owners), Servisair, Aramark, Amey and Hampshire Constabulary.
Some of the roles will include; airport security, ground handling such as check-in and baggage handling, customer service and retail roles. In addition, Hampshire Constabulary will be promoting their voluntary posts as Special Constables as a way to develop new skills which are attractive to employers, as well as a possible route to joining the Police.
