£7,000 to explore sexuality

An Eastleigh based ‘Theatre Company’, who ‘fuse cabaret and animation’ in order to ‘explore themes of gender and sexuality’ has received £7,000 from the arts council to fund its work.

The company called ‘Milk Presents’, who are one of the ‘associate artist’ groups based at the loss making Point theatre, have secured the funding to finance their forthcoming offbeat production of ‘Blue Beard, A Fairytale for Adults’

According the Eastleigh Borough Council website:

Milk Presents fuses cabaret, low-tech inventions and live animation to rework and re-imagine classic tales that explore themes of gender and sexuality.

The Point’s Associate Artist scheme is part of the theatre’s ‘Domicile Project’, which creates opportunities for little known companies from outside the borough to be sponsored by Eastleigh’s council tax payers.

Eastleigh News recently revealed that the council has bailed out the Point to the tune of £354,000 so far this financial year.

It great to know while so jobs and services are being cut and welfare benefits are being squeezed that both the council and government can still afford to be so generous to wacky art projects.

You have got to be having a F**KING LAUGH..!!

Why in the name of god are we, the local tax payer, being forced to give OUR money to these stupid projects that clearly feature sad stuck up people who were not cuddled enough by their mothers as kids..!!

Please Eastleigh People, our own residents on low incomes and benefits are going without the baiscs just to be able to feed their kids while OUR council funds this totally upper class SH*T..!!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH..!! Its time to close The Point and invest the £397,000.00 this place costs us each year into public services that help the most needy, not the most STUCK UP..!!

    This is total MADNESS..!!

Actually I think this particular funding is a very good idea. Art in this country is coming under attack from Cameron’s Coalition cuts. Do we want to fall behind the rest of Europe by stifling revolutionary art? The artistic exploration of sexuality and gender sounds like frontier breaking stuff. And besides, what’s £7,000 compared to what we are giving the EU? Oops! Slightly off topic there maybe? I promise to flagellate myself with 13 copies of Eastleigh Borough News.

      Mmmmm…self flagellation.
Perhaps you could interest the Point in staging a public performance?
      Make yourself a few £££££££’s!

Pete you comments are really odd. You comment on most stories attacking the EU and how we should move away from its control then say things like.. “Do we want to fall behind the rest of Europe by stifling revolutionary art?”.

You can not have it both ways my friend..!!

Oops! I could have said I got my inspiration for contrariness from the litigious Mr Frankland in “Hound of the Baskervilles”. But actually it was simply my fault for not making more clear what I meant. I said “Europe” not the “EU” because I’ve got NOTHING against Europe, but EVERYTHING against that evil, corrupt, money grabbing, anti-democratic, obsolete political monstrosity which currently calls itself the EU, an embyonic super state which sucks in vast amounts of our taxes and cannot even validate its own annual accounts for FOURTEEN years (or is it 16)? No wonder our politicians are so keen on us staying in (under it). No wonder they say “the EU is good for US”. They mean THEMSELVES!
