Brian Hendy of Hendy Group hands over mondeo to John Bonney HFRS

To assist The Blue Lamp Trust in their efforts to promote improved driving standards and road safety in the business community, Eastleigh based dealership Hendy Group have generously supplied the Trust with a Ford Mondeo.  The vehicle will be used to deliver driver training to companies to assist them in evidencing their duty of care to employees driving both company vehicles and their own vehicles on the company’s behalf.

The on road training is delivered by Driving Standards Agency approved driving instructors who hold a Police Instructors Certificate. The Trust offers classroom based courses, details of which can be found on their website.

The Blue Lamp Trust is a charitable partnership between Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, local businesses and the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The aims of the Trust are to promote improved driving standards and road safety as well as reduce crime and the fear of crime within homes and businesses, and educate on all aspects of fire safety and fire prevention.

In 2009 in the UK there were 2,222 fatalities on the roads (41 in Hampshire) and 222,000 people injured,30% of crashes involve someone driving company vehicles, on company business or commuting to/from work.

The Blue Lamp Trust driving courses assist employers in evidencing a commitment on the part of the organisation to meet their Duty of Care obligations to employees who drive as part of their work activity.

The official handover of the branded Ford Mondeo took place on Tuesday 10 May 2011 at Hendy Ford in Eastleigh.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Chief Officer, John Bonney, , said:

“We are delighted to have gained the support of Hendy Group in Eastleigh, and especially appreciate their enthusiasm shown towards The Blue Lamp Trust.  On behalf of the Trust I would like to thank Hendy Ford for supplying this car to assist with the aims of The Blue Lamp Trust.”

Brian Hendy, Chairman of the Hendy Group in handing over a Ford Mondeo to the Trust to use in its new Driver Training and Awareness programme; expressed his company’s delight in being involved in the programme.

“This initiative being launched by the Blue Lamp Trust working with Hampshire Constabulary and the Hampshire Fire Service will provide a unique opportunity for the public and businesses to take advantage of the driver training on offer.”

Brian added,
