A Police Officer was assaulted and a man and teenager left injured after being set upon by a gang of youths in Botley on Friday Night.
The incident happened outside a property in Rowley Close at around 9pm.
A 35-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were approached and assaulted by four young men. The man and teenager were punched and had a bottle thrown at them.
The victims sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
A police officer who responded was also assaulted and a police vehicle damaged during this incident. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated for concussion by medical staff at the scene. He is now recovering at home.
It is understood that four people local to the area were arrested by the police and released on bail pending enquires
Appealing for information DC Kerrie Malin, from Eastleigh CID, said:
“This appears to have been an isolated incident and residents in this area should not be concerned. However, police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information which could help investigating officers with their enquiries. You can speak to officers in confidence or call the Crimestoppers charity if you would prefer to leave information anonymously.”
Last Autumn local conservatives conducted a survey on Anti Social Behaviour in Botley- which was reportedly dismissed as ‘alarmist’ by Cllr Rupert Kryle the Lib Dem Chair of Botley’s Local Area Committee.
Although the results showed a majority of people, 72%, felt safe in Botley 58% claimed to have witnessed ASB first hand.
A further 67% said they thought there were insufficient Police or PCSOs to deal with trouble.
According to the respondents excessive drinking was the main cause of local ASB problems.
