It’s sweet FA for Eastleigh

Eastleigh match secretary Ray Murphy announced that Eastleigh have become full member of the Football Association.

The press release was as follows.

“Eastleigh Football Club are proud to announce that following a meeting of the Football Association last month, Eastleigh FC are now Full Members of the Football Association, an honour that currently only is issued to 215 member Clubs, from over 900 clubs that are affiliated with the Association, and one of those is the world famous amateur representative side Middlesex Wanderers.

Having been taken on as Associated Members of the Football Association back in 2007, Eastleigh applied to upgrade to Full Membership earlier this season and following a successful interview procedure led by Eastleigh Chairman Paul Murray and Stadium Manager Mick Geddes, the application was considered at a recent Membership Committee meeting at the Association and the application was accepted.”

Another great step forward for The Spitfires, with thanks to, among others, Messrs Malone, Murray and Geddes.

I cannot wait, as a Saints fan, for the Spitfires to be our REAL Derby Rivals rather than the Blue Phew some 17 miles east of here.

Of course if Eastleigh are as successful as we all hope and they progress up through the tiers of league football until they are in a position to play local derbies with Saints, they’ll inevitably incur the problem of trying to build a new stadium at Stoneham…!

Prehaps they could build the new ground on the park on Leigh Road. That is if there is any of it left after the council let Sainsbury’s build their new store on it.??

Interesting comment Matthew, has planning permission been applied for? Is this going to be merely an extension or a totally new store?
