Thief uses PIN to withdraw £600

A member of staff at the Nuffield hospital in Chandlers Ford had £600 withdrawn from her bank account after her bank card was stolen and she divulged her PIN number to the thief.

Two members of the office staff at the Winchester Road hospital had their purses taken from their handbags by a sneak thief last Thursday (Sept 15).

The bags had been left in an unlocked drawer in a Staff only area.

The thief then phoned them claiming to be from their bank and requested their PIN numbers.

One of the victims refused but the other co-operated and funds were then withdrawn from her account.

The incident is similar to an incident at Eastleigh Health Centre in July when a thief stole a purse from a member of staff whom he later phoned for a PIN number

Police officers have issued a reminder to people to make sure their valuables at work are with them and to never reveal their PIN to anyone.

Remember your bank will never ask you for it.

If you saw anyone hanging around the hospital or if you think you know who is responsible please contact PC Steven Day at Eastleigh Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
