A member of a drunken gang that set upon a 55 year old Newtown man in July has been sentenced after an appearance at the Youth Court last week.
The youngster pleaded guilty to assault and using words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress.
The youth was sentenced to a 12 month rehabilitation order, 40 hours unpaid community work and had to pay £25 in compensation.
The assault occurred after the victim had asked a gang of youths who had spent the afternoon drinking ‘Crunk Juce’ in an alleyway to move away from his garage.
He was then punched and kicked to the ground.
A neighbour who saw the assault and rushed to help the stricken man was also threatened and had to defend himself with a stick.
A 54 year old who witnessed the incident, but did not wish to be named said:
“This was a frightening episode which upset my children who are now too nervous to use the alleyway by themselves’
Locals are very grateful to the police for pursuing the case and bringing this individual to court.
We only hope that the sentence is sufficient to make him want to mend his ways and serve as a warning to others.”
