Mayor with Southampton Airport Fire Crew

Mayor Cllr Wayne Irish with (L-R) Steve Bonser, Kerry Hyde, Craig Beesley, James Munn and Kev Montgomery.

Eastleigh’s Mayor  Councillor Wayne Irish, fuelled his passion for transport last week with a visit to Southampton Airport to see the airside fire station’s new state-of-the-art vehicles.

Following a meet and greet with the station’s Green Watch, the Mayor was taken for a tour around the station’s facilities before being shown the two new Rosenbauer Panther 6×6 specialist fire fighting vehicles. He then had the privilege of trying out the state-of-the-art equipment and using the roof-mounted monitors that are used to dispense water or foam.  He was then taken on a high speed pass of the runway in the vehicle.

Councillor Wayne Irish, commented:

“I had a fantastic time with the airport fire crew.  The new fire engines are packed with modern technology and maintained impeccably. It was great to give the water canons a go and to see them in action, as well as to see the bits of the airport the passengers don’t.  Safety and security at the airport is a high priority and it’s very comforting to know we’re in good hands.”
