Jamie Slabber dummies the ball and puts Eastleigh 1-0 up

Ian Baird’s Spitfires will go into tonight’s Hampshire Senior Cup clash knowing they will be in the top half of the table over Christmas.

Eastleigh went into tenth place of the Blue Square Bet South on Saturday after they beat Boreham Wood 2-0 at the Silverlake Stadium.

The first goal came in the 36th minute when Boreham Wood’s back pass to goalkeeper Michael Jordan fell short, Jamie Slabber looked to pounce on the ball however the former Tottenham Hotspurs striker dummied the keeper and went round Jordan to strike into an empty net.

In the 68th minute, The Spitfires secured all three points with Michael Green running down the left wing to cross a superb pinpoint ball to Damian Scannell who done very well to get his head on to it and scored his first goal for Eastleigh since he left the club four years ago.

The Spitfires now play Fleet Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup tonight (7:45 PM kick off) in the third round at The Silverlake Stadium after they got reinstated in the cup – See here

Fleet sit 19th in the Evo-Stik Southern Division One Central League (two leagues below Eastleigh) and have only won five games this season in the league.

The Blues last game was away to St Neots Town in the league where they lost 4-1 however like Eastleigh, Fleet town has not won a game in the Hampshire Senior Cup this season as they were reinstated after Farnborough was found fielding illegal players when they played Aldershot Town.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2008/2009 season and Fleet Town won 2-0 at the Calthorpe Park however Chris Flood was the only player who remains in the squad for tonight.

Ian Baird told Radio Spitfire regarding the Hampshire Senior Cup.

“We will be treating this as a first team game, we will be treating it as serious as any other game, that’s for sure”

Ian Baird’s response about winning the Hampshire Senior Cup.

In other news the official website has announced the news of new directors at the club.

“Subject to the necessary paperwork, Bridle Insurance have secured the agreement of enough shareholders to have a majority shareholding in Eastleigh Football Club.

That being so, at a Board Meeting yesterday, Stewart Donald and Neil Fox were elected as Directors of Eastleigh Football Club Ltd.

Paul Murray will remain as Non Executive Chairman and the constitution of the Board will be announced soon.”

Dave Malone also announced on the fans forum a mystery record bid for a striker.

“I can confirm that we have made a Club record offer for a striker – and we await a response.

I have to be honest, in telling you that there is no certainty that we will succeed with this bid – but I hope this demonstrates just how seriously our new Investors are in helping us move forward.”

This is going to be a great cup clash tonight at The Silverlake Stadium so roar on those Spitfires!
