Water leak leaves homes dry

Emergency repairs to a burst water main has left parts of Hedge End with reduced water supplies today.

The first that many residents knew of the problem was dwindling water pressure.

Southern Water’s technical helpline carried a recorded message saying that customers in Hedge End, in the SO30 postcode area, were affected by emergency leak repairs to a pipe in  West End road  and that supplies were due to be restored by 16:00 hours

A spokesman for Southern Water said:

The problem was caused by a hairline fracture in a pipe and up to 100 properties are thought to be affected.

One resident of New Cliffe Gardens,  Hedge End,  said that West End Road is some distance from here so as there are 21 properties in this little cul-de-sac, Southern Water’s estimate of 100 properties being affected looks like a serious underestimate.
