Huhne Bailed

Mr Huhne outside court

Mr Huhne gets close up outside court this morning

Chris Huhne, Eastleigh’s colourful MP, has been bailed to appear at Southwark Crown Court on March 2 following a morning  appearance in the dock at Westminster Magistrate’s Court.

An uncharecteristlcially glum looking Mr Huhne appeared with former wife Vicky Pryce to answer charges that they consipred to  allow Ms Pryce to take a speeding rap on Mr Mr Huhne’s behalf – an allegation the MP has strenously denied saying he was ‘delighted’ the Police were investigating the matter.

Earlier this month Mr Huhne resigned his £136,000 pa cabinet post to defend the charge.

Neither defendent enetered a plea and spoke only to confirm their name, date of birth and address – Mr Huhne gave his Dutton Lane residence as his home address  Both parties then left without wihtout making any comment to the press.

Eastleigh News is proud to stand behind our ‘innocent-until-proven-guilty’ MP while he defends himself against all charges although this in itself should not be construed as a suggestion that we feel Ms Pryce has been in any way untruthful.

(That should cover it. Ed)

    CHRIS HUHNE IS INNOCENT!

If our MP is saying he is innocent – then that’s good enough for me.*

Why would he lie to us?

I am minded (pending medical advice) to drive up to Southwark on March 2 and stage a show of support outside the court – I will start working on the placards straight away.

I am hoping I will be joined by local Lib Dem Councillors, activists and local voters.

After all, everyone round here knows someone who has been helped by Chris – so here’s a chance for you to give something back!

    *Unless proven otherwise

Oh so that printed pre-election stuff about his wonderful 26 year old marriage wasn’t a lie then? (Four weeks after publication his marriage split was announced). That visit to Barton Peveril College stating that Lib Dems would not put up tuition fees wasn’t a lie then? U turn on nuclear power wasn’t a lie then? Didn’t realise I had misunderstood the poor man. He can’t be lieing about speeding then, surely?

It’s not a criminal offence for a politician to fall out of love with their partner or to change their mind on policy.

I’m as disappointed as you are with Mr Huhne’s delivery on his pre-election pledges but as he said himself – following his backflip on VAT – when he quoted Keynes (no less) by saying:

“When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”

      That’s just Politics.

He has now been charged with a criminal offence – thats is quite different.

He has appeared on national TV in front of millions of people and protested his innocence and he has personally told both the Prime Minister and Deputy PM the same.

      Ask yourself this.

What kind of a man could have the brass neck to lie on that sort of scale?

Not the Chris Huhne I know!

Don’t forget as soon as he was caught having an affair by NOTW he did the ‘right thing’and fessed up straight away!

So I’m hoping many of his Lib Dem constituency colleagues will be joining me outside the court to show our support!

    Without predujuice.

Politicians dont lie. Mr Huhne innocent.

Its a well known fact that politicians are true and honourable, a shining example. If Mr Huhne is found innocent, I can say… I told you so!

Isnt Private Eye just brilliant! I never miss an issue.

Ask yourselves this question: Have you already made up your minds on the basis of what the newspapers have written? If so, then that is NOT good. If so, probably the whole nation has made up its mind too. If so, then a fair trial will be hard to envisage.

Chris Huhne is loathed by so many people, not only for being:

    a) A LibDem (which is seems is a more serious offence than being a Tory (remember it was the Tories in 1972 who handed over Britain to a foreign power) and,
    b) For APPARENTLY doing the dirty on his wife.

Avoid speculating before hand about ANYTHING. The FACTS will emerge during the trial and then lovers of justice can make up our minds when they have heard ALL the evidence.

FINALLY remember the presumption of innocence is more than just casual words. If you cannot uphold this principle in your hearts for Chris Huhne, your mortal enemy, then English justice is dead.

It’s not up to any of us to decide whether Chris Huhne or Vicky Pryce is innocent or guilty – this will be decided by a jury based on evidence presented to them at trial.
The only thing we as individuals can decide is whether we continue to support Chris Huhne as Eastleigh’s MP.
