Police in rapid response to sudden death

Residents in Derby Road were alarmed yesterday afternoon as a sudden influx of police cars, including armed response vehicles, parked in the road suggesting a serious incident was taking place.

Sadly it transpired that a local resident had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at their home on Southampton Road and police had responded rapidly to the emergency call.

A local police officer explained to Eastleigh News that with an unexplained death police would assume the worst as a precaution until such time as foul play could be ruled out.

The units were quickly stood down a short time after their arrival and police issued the following statement yesterday evening:

“Police were called to an address on Southampton Road by South Coast Ambulance Service around midday today where a woman was found passed away.  Officers are investigating the incident which, whilst unexpected is not being treated as suspicious.

“A file will be prepared and passed to HM Coroner.”
