Eastleigh College Hair and Beauty Students put their talents to the test this week hosting a themed Make-Up and Hair Show, and raising over a staggering £600 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust charity.
Over 60 first year students took part in the colourful extravaganza competing against each other in categories including Special Occasion, Fantasy and Big Screen. Students worked hard to perfect their look, including costume to complement their chosen theme, and were judged by a panel of judges including local make-up artist Vinny Patel, members from awarding body VTCT and World Skills. The judges watched as students worked for an hour on their models, before marking them on criteria, which not only included the application of the make-up but also the development of their ideas and how the make-up was matched with styling and accessories.
Dr. Stephen Vickers, Chief Executive of awarding body VTCT, was one of the judges and was delighted with the students’ work on display saying:
“Eastleigh College always produces very high quality work, they have wonderful group of teachers who are very unified and well managed. They do wonderful things for charity such as today’s event.”
Special Occasion winner, Andrieana Demetriou, created a combined carnival and animal inspired look by dressing her model top-to-toe in orange make-up and costume. Speaking of the benefit of taking part in such an event, Andrieana said:
“This has been great fun and I’m delighted that I won! I eventually want to develop a career in theatre make-up so this has been great experience for me.”
There was also a cake sale and raffle in aid of the ‘The Cystic Fibrosis’ charity, where they could win fabulous prizes, including a restaurant meal and beauty products!
Vanessa Parker, Beauty Lecturer and event organiser said:
“We are very pleased with the quality of work produced, and the hardwork put in by all of our first year students. We have had great feedback from all of the judges and are delighted to have raised so much for such a worthwhile charity.”
