It might have been the Easter holidays, it might have meant a 4.30am start for some, but this didn’t deter Eastleigh College students from competing and winning a hatful of medals at the Wessex Salon Culinaire – the UK’s largest live culinary competition.
The day got off to a great start for Eastleigh. First up was second year student Craig Rogers. It was 6.45 am and still dark when he started to prepare his dish of “braised buttered crown of guinea fowl, with escalope leg, pommes au lard and celery heart”, impressing the judges enough to award a bronze medal.
Another 17 medals for Eastleigh College students followed during the day, including two gold medals for Fungai Kunaka in the fish preparation skills and chicken preparation skills classes.
Weeks of dedication and practice certainly paid dividends with other colleges and the Craft Guild of Chefs taking note of Eastleigh College’s outstanding achievements.
