It’s back to reality with a bump for local dance stars Kai and Natalia who are back in Southampton following their appearance in the Britain’s Got Talent finals. Kai Widdrington returns to Barton Peveril College to today to sit an exam.
A peak audience of over 14 million viewers saw dancing dog Pudsey land its owner 17 year-old Ashleigh Butler the £500k winners prize on Saturday night in what was the most watched TV program of 2012 so far.
Kai and Natalia had started the show 1000/1 outsiders and despite another sizzling latin routine set to Bruno Mars ‘Runaway baby’ – they were the first names to be called and eliminated.
Unfortunately Natalia Jeved (16) had injured both her calf and pelvis in training and had needed pain killing injections in order to perform – this may have accounted for a lift going awry during their performance.
The judges reactions were mixed with David Walliams declaring them ‘winners’ while Alisha Dixon and Amanda Holden were booed by the audience after making slightly negative comments although Simon Cowell told the dancers:
“After your injury it’s amazing you’re even here tonight…I love people like you who are hard workers”
There had been strong local support for the duo – not only do they both live in Bassett and train in Hedge End but former Toynbee pupil Kai attends Barton Peveril and started his dance career in the Leigh Ballroom (prior to its closure and mothballing by Eastleigh Borough Council.)
The Conservative Parliamentary spokesman for Eastleigh Maria Hutchings tweeted her support as did Eastleigh Police who retweeted their phoneline number.
During the ’Britain’s got more talent ‘spin-off show broadcast live immediately following the final, runners up Johnathon and Charlotte told host Stephen Mulhern they would have voted for Kai and Natalia to win.
After the final Kai and Natalia tweeted their thanks to their 10,000 twitter followers;
“Thank you so much for your overwhelming support. It’s meant the world to us. An amazing journey”.
Meanwhile a petition has been started on twitter to bring back the BGT UK theatre tour that usually takes place after the end of every series.
Fans of the show who were looking forward to seeing the stars of this year’s final perform live on the annual BGT tour have been stunned to discover there are no plans to run it this year and they are urging twitter users to log in and sign the petition located at: twitition.com
