The Stroke Association is setting up a new stroke support group at the Hexagon Centre in Velmore.
The Stroke Association which is the only national charity which supports everyone affected by stroke say that currently there is very little support in the community for people affected by stroke in the Eastleigh area.
They will be holding a meeting at The Hexagon Centre on Tuesday 15 May from 1.00 – 3.00pm to discuss proposals for the new group and would like as many people who have been affected by stroke to attend as possible. This could be stroke survivors themselves, their families, carers and friends.
Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke and about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.
Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.
The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.
