Recently Trojans hockey club has held the first ‘Back to Hockey session in the area. It is a scheme run with England hockey to get women playing hockey again or for the first time.
Despite the rainfall starting just in time for Trojans hockey clubs first ever back to hockey session both the coaches and participants battled to make the evening a success. Whether they were coming back to hockey after some time away from the sport – or even starting for the first time – smiles were broad throughout the evening.
Organised by Emma Webb and Coached by Director of Coaching Chris Gittens and former junior international Nyssa Cole the group were introduced to the basics of the sport with a real emphasis on having fun.
A quick warm up getting everybody active was soon followed by stick and ball basics before breaking the group down into small games again emphasising the fun element of the sport rather than taking it too seriously.
Even as people fell over or continued to get wet from the ever increasing rain fall both coaches and the back to hockey ladies looked to be having a good time.
As part of the Olympic legacy it is important that people all around the country not only come back to playing sport after years away but start for the first time too.
Trojans is looking to be part of the Olympic legacy by being able to cater for women who are looking for a sport to play that is both good for fitness but also enjoyable. It is particularly close to the heart of Trojans hockey club as former Trojans player and Hampshire born elite athlete Alex Danson is set to play a major role in the Great Britain women’s hockey teams fight for gold in London this year.
All involved at Trojans hope the England Hockey backed scheme goes from strength to strength over the summer. If you would like to get back to hockey or start for the first time then get in contact with Trojans Hockey club at
