Drinkers and staff at a quiet rural pub have been left “shocked and distressed“ following a  terrifying attack by a group of armed raiders yesterday.

The Fox and Hounds at Hungerford near Bursledon was raided by a group of masked men  at 10.45 pm on Bank holiday Monday (June 4)

Staff were in the office of the Chef and Brewer pub when three or four suspects wearing balaclavas forced open the rear door and entered the pub.

One of the group was believed to be carrying a handgun.

Shocked staff were ordered to hand over the keys to the safe – the raiders took a quantity of cash before running into the woods to make their escape.

Detective Sergeant Sally French said:

“I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident, to come forward and speak to us.

“At the time of the robbery there were a number of staff members on the premises as well as customers who were finishing their drinks before closing time.  Fortunately no-one was injured, however, the staff and customers have been left shocked and distressed by what has happened.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to come forward and speak to us.  Did you see the offenders in the area?  Did you see anyone running from the Fox and Hounds pub shortly after 11pm on Monday night?  Anyone with information should contact us at the earliest opportunity to help us locate those responsible for this incident.”
