Flybe celebrate ten years with 10% off!

Flybe – the largest scheduled airline flying out of Southampton Airport is marking its tenth anniversary by offering a 10% discount off tickets booked before midnight on July 25 for travel through to October 25 on a selection of popular routes that include some key destinations to and from Southampton where, over the past decade Flybe passenger numbers have increased 750%!

Over the past ten years, the airline has prospered and grown despite the continued tough economic challenges faced by the aviation industry. While air passenger numbers have been dropping elsewhere Flybe has maintained its grip in the UK operating more UK domestic flights than any other carrier and is the leading airline at 12 UK airports, with a claimed 28% UK domestic market share.

Jim French, Flybe’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said:

“In 2002, we created a bright modern brand to survive in a highly competitive and aggressive new low-cost travel era and made changes to commercial, fleet and operational policies to transform the airline. That work continues today and Flybe continues to be the innovative airline it always has been.

“Most recently, we’ve expanded our business model into Finland through a joint venture with Finnair, achieved significant success with the performance of our Aviation Support business and overseen the arrival during the past year of the first seven of our firm order with Embraer for 34 E175 jets.”

In April the carrier announced a major makeover  under the slogan ‘Making flying better’, Flybe has responded with a number of major new initiatives that will be rolled out throughout 2012 to positively differentiate it against some of the negative perceptions of low cost air travel. Amongst the first of these was the dropping debit card charges for online ticket bookings, a move that has received widespread acknowledgement.

Southampton Airport boss, Dave Lees, commented:

“This is a great milestone for both Flybe and Southampton Airport.  Over the past 10 years Flybe have more than doubled the number of passengers flying through the Airport, and today they offer an extensive range of frequent flights both across the UK and Europe.  I would like to congratulate Flybe on its many achievements over the past 10 years, and I look forward to Flybe further developing its network of services for both business and leisure passengers in the future.”
