Mayor backs Quit4Life

The Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Rupert Kyrle, and Paul Kelly promote smoking cessation.

Plans to set up a new smoking cessation group at the Velmore Centre were given the support of The Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Rupert Kyrle, today.

The Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust run quit4life smoking cessation groups around the Borough of Eastleigh and more widely throughout Hampshire. Busy at the Velmore Centre’s fun day, trying to recruit enough smokers to make a new smoking cessation group  at the Velmore Centre a viable proposition, was health-worker Paul Kelly.

Taking the opportunity to chat to the Mayor, who was enjoying the fun-day after formally opening the Velmore Centre, Mr Kelly explained the products that were available and how the groups worked, adding that he hoped to create a new smoking cessation group at the Velmore Centre, to help local people who were determined to give-up smoking.

The Mayor enthusiastically backed the idea, saying that;

I gave up a few years ago and know how difficult it is, but lapsed recently following a bereavement. A smoking cessation group at the Velmore Centre is a great idea that would be of benefit to the local community.

If you would like to be part of a new smoking cessation group at the Velmore Centre, or if just want to find out more about smoking cessation and the many other groups that are running locally you can contact the stop smoking service via;

    “I gave up a few years ago and know how difficult it is, but lapsed recently following a bereavement.”

    I had the same experience when my Dad died in 1993 and I didn’t manage to pack it in again until 1998.
    Ex smokers are only ever one fag away from renewing the addiction – no matter how long they have packed up for.

      Reckon you’re right. Electronic fags are the only thing that I’ve seen work on a heavy smoker, but they don’t actually break the nicotine addiction. They’re just a different way of getting the hit without all of the harmful chemicals that are in Tobacco smoke.
