Cyclo-Cross came to Eastleigh on Sunday as Fleming Park became the latest venue in the Sotonia Cyclo-Cross/Wessex League.

A lovely autumnal morning greeted the riders and supporters as they arrived at the new venue for the Round 4 tussle and they were treated to some fast exciting races throughout the groups.

The course was laid out over the disused golf course and included many off camber turns, a sand pit and lots of technical wooded sections. The grass was damp to start with but soon dried with the passage of tyres and did not cut up throughout the duration of the race.

A good crowd of watched Michael Cotty (Wheelbase-Cannondale) take the honours in the senior race after setting a fast pace right from the start and quickly establishing a clear lead while Mike Simpson (GS Henley) also won in style in the veteran section, pulling away from the chasers after one lap.

Tamina Oliver (Hargroves Cycles) was first the woman home and a strong ride from Elliott Lassiter (Swindon RC) saw him win the Youth section while Emma Pitt (PPV) won for the girls.

Angus Hawkins (PPV) won from a large field of under 12’s and first under 12 girl back was Abbie Manley (Chapel Tri Stars).
