A 24 year-old man was seriously injured by a bottle wielding thug after he intervened to stop a group of yobs who verbally abused his girlfriend as she tried to get them to stop breaking bottles which she feared would damage cars.
The victim, named Sean, chased the group of three youths down an alleyway between York Road and South Street, Eastleigh. When he caught up with one of the group hit Sean on the head with a beer bottle, causing an eight-inch gash with required 10 stitches.
When Sean was joined by other people, the offender ran down the alley towards South Street.
The incident happened last Saturday night (October 13) at about 8pm.
The offender is described as a thin white man, aged 18 – 22, who is 5ft 8-9ins tall. He wore a dark waterproof hooded jacket.
Detective Constable Claire Reynolds said house to house enquiries revealed the three youths would have been seen by other residents in the area at that time of night.
“We are certain someone saw this group and may be able to identify one or all of the members. This was a very serious incident, which left the victim with a permanent scar. If you saw the incident or know anything about it, we need your help to bring the offenders to justice,” DC Reynolds said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Reynolds at Eastleigh CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111.
