HELP our Helicopter Heroes to save lives

The Charity Director for the County Air Ambulance Trust, HELP Appeal has appealed to the public to dig deep this Christmas and help them to save lives by donating towards more and facilities for critically ill patients who need to be airlifted to hospital.

The HELP Appeal is part of an ongoing programme to raise the funds needed to construct or update existing helipads around the country and to ensure that all A&E hospitals have suitable helipad access in the future but it relies solely on charitable donations and does not receive a single penny in government funding or from the National Lottery.

The Golden Hour

The first hour after any incident is critical. Every second of every minute of every hour counts in a medical emergencies and when the clock starts ticking off the minutes of the ‘Golden Hour’, the difference between life and death is often a fast flying helicopter with appropriate landing facilities.

Commenting on the first anniversary of the Southampton General Hospital Helipad becoming operational, Robert Bertram, Charity Director said;.

“The helipad has helped hundreds of critically ill and injured patients from across the region to get to the specialist treatment they need as quickly as possible, saving many lives. This helipad showcases just how important it is for every hospital across the country to have access to safe onsite landing facilities.

“The HELP Appeal relies entirely on charitable donations and our fundraising efforts continue. We’re calling on the local community to get behind us and to donate whatever they can by calling 0800 3898 999 or visiting to help us help to save lives. Our dream is that every major hospital across the country has access to an onsite helipad but we can’t make this a reality without your support and donations.”
