Richard Hill’s Spitfires will have a new link with Premier League outfit Southampton as The Saints will now play some of their under 21’s games at The Silverlake Stadium.
Eastleigh have had previous business with Southampton before with the signing of Aaron Martin to Saints and the loan move to The Silverlake Stadium for Jack Dovey which ended up being a permanent move after the keeper got released.
The first of the these exciting fixtures will be Newcastle under 21’s who travel to play Southampton on Monday 17th December (7PM kick off).
The Silverlake Stadium has been given the green light from the Premier League following a recent inspection of the facilities.
As well as Southampton Under 21’s playing at The Silverlake Stadium, the official website announced that the new link-up will see the two clubs’ youth programmes share ideas on how to develop local youth football.
Manager Richard Hill spoke for the official website about this new link up with Southampton Football Club.
“This is a positive move for the club and says a lot about Eastleigh and where we are going that Southampton approached us.
We have a Premier League club on our doorstep and it is imperative we have strong links and be in pole position when any mutually beneficial opportunities arise in the future.
Likewise, we want to have close links with as many local clubs as possible, hence, why we are travelling to Romsey tomorrow night.”
Saints under-21s are now looking for a place in the Elite Group Stage of the Professional Development League where they need to win their last two game to a secure a place and will play more home games at the Silverlake Stadium after Christmas.
The rules of the competition state that the both clubs can field three overage players as well as a keeper which has seen stars such as Artur Boruc, Danny Butterfield, Tadanari Lee, Ryan Dickson and Jonathan Forte this season alone.
Les Reed, Executive Director of Saints’ Football Development & Support Centre also spoke for the official website.
“This is a great opportunity for our two clubs to form a relationship which benefits football in and around the Southampton community.”
This is a great opportunity for both Eastleigh and Southampton so show your support for both clubs watch some up and coming superstars.
COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!!!
