Exclusive. Eastleigh News has learned that Ray Hall of the Beer Baccy & Crumpet Party is busy forming a Beer, Baccy & Crumpet Cricket Team.
Ray’s imaginatively named political party and blue-sky thinking captured the imagination of Eastleigh News readers and amused much of the country during the recent Eastleigh by-election, with Ray Hall trouncing the Monster Raving Loonys and all of the other (so called) ‘frivolous’ parties at his first attempt.
The Beer, Baccy & Crumpet party is still ticking-over behind the scenes and Ray tells us that he has plans to contest the European Elections in 2014 and the General Election in 2015.
But with election campaigns on the back-burner for the moment, 74 yr old Ray Hall has been busy developing his Retro Silver Photo Frames business and also an intriguing dice-based golf game. Whilst out on the road selling his frames recently, Ray was challenged to a game of cricket by a team in Hungerford. He has also had interest from a cricket team in Sidmouth and also from the Landlord of the Brewery Bar in Botley.
Ray is now looking for some players to form the official Beer, Baccy & Crumpet Cricket team and join in the fun…
Cricketing ability and experience is said to be unimportant, as the limited over matches will be played on a handicap basis, with oldies (like Ray) being awarded a certain number of runs to start with, so players cannot possibly be out for a duck. “The Reduced run-up” and “no-bouncers” variations of cricketing rules will also help to make the games more accessible to inexperienced cricketers.
Continuing the theme adopted by his political party, Ray is particularly keen to include some lady cricketers in his team, whom he says
“will have a handicap in double figures…”
His words, not ours…!
Ray also says;
“Although Beer, Baccy & Crumpet is a Centrist Socialist party, the cricket team is open to everybody and we would not refuse any Conservatives or Trotskyites who wanted to take part…”
“The aim is to win friends, not matches…!”
Eastleigh News is reminded of that memorable cricket match from Dads Army and we understand that Ray wouldn’t object to having some experienced or celebrity cricketers in his team.
We also expect that the beer tent will be popular….
If anybody is interested in joining in the cricketing fun, or learning more about the Beer, Baccy & Crumpet party, they can contact Ray Hall directly, via BeerBaccyCrumpet@gmail.com
Eastleigh News will of course be on location, reporting live from this historical event, as & when (and if) it happens.
