The Council’s Economic Development Unit comprising Anne Dawson, Barbara Corcoran, Theresa Ball, Teresa Smith, Sandra Giles, Kathryn Rankin and Paul De-La-More won the Federation of Small Business (FSB) award for the Best Small Business Friendly Engagement.
The event staged at the Botleigh Grange Hotel in Hedge End was the fifth annual Local Authority Small Business Friendly Awards. The awards aim to recognise the vital work undertaken by Councils in supporting their local small business community.
The team won the award for its initiatives supporting small businesses including The Meadows Centre – a training and employment centre, The Sorting Office – a space for 16 creative businesses and Southern Entrepreneurs – which runs training and networking events for over 1000 local businesses. Wessex House – providing office accommodation for over 70 businesses also helped the Council secure the prestigious award.
Ken Moon, Chair of Wessex Region for FSB said:
“We value these awards very highly and consider them extremely important. We remain as committed as ever to recognise those Councils who go ‘above and beyond’ to engage with local businesses.”
Cabinet Lead for Business & Skills Councillor Peter Wall said in a press statement:
“I’d like to express my thanks to the FSB for encouraging and supporting local councils in their work to help small businesses.”
