Over 400 Hampshire parents picked up affordable baby goods whilst raising funds to support local families at a volunteer-run sale organised by the Eastleigh branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) on Sunday 6 October at Crestwood College.

Parents and parents-to-be picked up everything from babygros to buggies, saving money while also stopping products going to landfill and raising money for NCT – the UK’s largest charity for parents. All items came from the 140 local parents, who chose to sell on their unwanted baby goods, which are always in nearly new condition.

The NCT Nearly New Sale, sponsored by Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure, was organised and run by 60 local volunteers from the Eastleigh Branch who took on roles including promoting the sale, organising refreshments and collecting entrance fees or donations.

Thanks to their hard work, the sale made over £3,000 which will go towards supporting the charity’s work, including the running of local support groups that help to relieve isolation and loneliness faced by new parents. One such group is the newly launched Bumps, Babies and Beyond group held every Wednesday at The Cranbury Centre, Cranbury Road, Eastleigh 1pm to 3pm.

Kate Smart, Nearly New Sale Coordinator, said: “We were delighted with the success of our autumn NCT Nearly New Sale. It was great to see the community come together to pass on their toys and baby clothes, helping so many local parents save money.

“The Sale couldn’t have happened without our hardworking volunteers. The next Sale will be in the spring and we need more people to join the team to ensure we continue to provide a great experience for sellers and buyers alike.”

The Eastleigh Branch is one of NCT’s network of over 300 local branches in the UK, dedicated to supporting local parents and parents-to-be via its range of services including antenatal and postnatal courses, breastfeeding support, bumps and babies groups, coffee mornings, Nearly New Sales and much more.
