Free ‘on road’ parking extended in Eastleigh town centre

Local residents and visitors to the town are reminded that the free ‘on road’ parking scheme in Eastleigh town centre has been extended until the end of May 2014.

Visitors to the town will be able to continue to enjoy free ‘on road’ pay and display parking in High Street and Market Street only between 3pm and 6pm on Monday to Fridays until the end of May 2014.

Figures show that parking on these roads has proved to be very popular with visitors to the town. The scheme was developed by the Council and Eastleigh Town Centre Partnership to help boost trade and encourage visitors and shoppers to the town over the festive period. Visitors can use around 40 parking bays over the two roads that allows shoppers to park free for one hour and save the current fee of £1.30.

A Council spokesperson said

“It was great to see that the scheme encouraged more people to come in and use the town centre facilities. I’m sure it continues to provide a welcome boost to local businesses. It’s simple, as the parking restrictions remain exactly the same you just don’t need to put any money in the machine. To claim one hour’s free parking after 3pm, visitors will simply need to press for a free ticket from a parking machine as is currently the case. I hope people will continue to take advantage of this great opportunity.”

Visitors are limited to one hour free parking with no return within two hour

You’d have to pay me to fight through all that gridlock to visit Eastleigh! (I cannot face the 2 hour bus ride at £££ even though I live only a few miles away)

Not that there is much worth looking at when you get there unless you like charity shops and the aroma of chip fat/cigarettes.
