Local Health Chief in public focus event

Eastleigh folk will get a chance to question a local health chief and listen to a talk by a specialist in the treatment of blood clots and heamophilia during a “Health Focus Event” at Fleming Park next week

Health Focus events are an opportunity for the local community to meet and ask questions of the local governors and the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust chairman and Chief Executive Mary Edwards who will open the event with an update on the work of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

This will be of interest to Eastleigh residents as the  trust will be launching a public consultation on the future of emergency treatment at the RHCH over the summer.

Guest speaker Dr Tamara Everington is a consultant haematologist and will be talking about how to reduce your risk of developing a blood clot after surgery or by making changes to your lifestyle, and about the latest developments in haemophilia and blood clotting

The doctor is a member of a team of clinicians who are based at Hampshire Hospitals’ specialist Haemophilia, Haemostasis and Thrombosis Centre. She has recently launched an online assessment tool to help people establish their risk of developing blood clots and receive advice on how to reduce that risk. The tool is available on the NHS Choices website.

Dr Everington said:

“I have seen how massive advances in blood science research have transformed the lives of our patients, and I became a haematologist because I wanted to be part of that. I look forward to seeing many people at the Health Focus event and talking more about bleeding, clotting and why – with your help – the NHS is better than ever.”

Dr Everington gave a similar talk in Basingstoke in April, where more than seventy people attended  to hear her “excellent” and “informative” talk. Attendees also commented that Dr Everington was a “brilliant speaker” and that it was “good to hear about progress in the NHS.”

The meeting which is open to the public is on Tuesday 3 June at 6.30pm at Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh.
