While the country continues to bask in a heatwave and children start their school holidays Hedge End families won’t be able to access the towns paddling pool which has had to be closed due to the actions of a group of young vandals.

On Thursady evening a group of teenage boys aged between 12 – 14 used water from the pool to create a mudslide and contaminated the pool with clumps of mud.

The lads are also alleged to have ‘run riot’ through the pool area knocking over toddlers and verbally abusing council staff who tried to intervene.

A litter bin was also broken and emptied into the pool.

Hedge end’s town clerk commented in a statement sent to Southampton newspaper The Daily Echo

‘A minority of young boys have spoilt the enjoyment for the majority with their wanton behaviour and it is very disappointing that the pool is now out of commission for the time being. The cleaning process will take some time to return the paddling pool to the high standards demanded by the Town Council’.

Eastleigh News understands that council staff did alert the police to the incident but no officers atteneded and town councillors have expressed their disappointment that despite their funding of PCSO’s, no officers were available to respond.

It is hoped the clean up operation will be able to commence on Monday.
