Railways Minister says Eastleigh on track for investment

The Minister for Railways Claire Perry has said that Eastleigh Station is on track for more investment.

Perry was in Eastleigh as part of whistle stop tour of the South West network region and met with the Conservative candidate for Eastleigh, Mims Davies.

The pair took some time to chat to commuters to find out what kind of improvements they would like to see at Eastleigh’s “beautiful” Victorian railway station.

The minister said £40 billion would be invested in the railway infrastructure over the next five years and Eastleigh commuters would soon be feeling the benefit with South West trains introducing more trains and newer rolling stock over the next two-and-a half years.

Eastleigh News asked the minister about the forthcoming 3.5% rise in train fares this January which the Labour party had described as a ‘rip-off’ but she said that as the government had pegged the fare increase to the RPI, the increases actually represented a “freeze in real terms.”

Perry said she thought that conservative candidate Mims Davies would “Stand up for the town and make sure the right businesses are coming here”

40 billion over 5 years is 22 million a day, including weekends and bank holidays, I think you meant 40 million , unless all the players in the premier league are plating the rails with gold.

We have a privatised rail network , but the government still piles cash into it (which they steal from our children) ,the shareholders get a profit but the tories say they have capped the fare increase – so the shareholders just get a proscribed profit for their risk free investment .

In real terms the brain power of the electorate has been frozen.

What is wrong with Eastleigh station ?
