Twenty pupils and their parents at Bursledon Infant School have completed their first Cook and Eat course.
The Cook and Eat initiative has been organised by Eastleigh Borough Council in partnership with Hampshire County Council’s catering service (HC3S) and support from Hampshire County Council.
Every Wednesday after school for six weeks parents and pupils learn the importance of a balanced diet, basic cookery techniques, food budgeting, menu planning, food safety and hygiene.
Borough Mayor, Councillor Tony Noyce presented certificates to all those who took part in the course. The Mayor said:
“It was really fantastic to see the children enjoying cooking with their parents, they were all having great fun and learning some new skills.”
Cabinet Member for Health & Community Safety Councillor Tonia Craig said:
“Its great to provide opportunities for parents and children to learn to cook together. By providing these fun hands on cooking sessions in schools we hope to encourage enthusiasm for food preparation and develop an appreciation of the benefits of healthy, good food among children and adults.”
