Fireworks herald Christmas in Eastleigh

Around 10,000 people attended the popular annual Christmas Light Switch On event in Eastleigh town centre following a day of festive celebrations and family fun day to launch this years festive season.

The Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Tony Noyce, assisted by Santa Claus and MP Mike Thornton, switched on the town’s 2014 Christmas lights display that was followed by a spectacular free firework display on Leigh Road Recreation Ground.

Local people also enjoyed an exciting range of day time attractions including children’s rides, Santa’s grotto, animal farm, face painting, climbing wall and many other activities.

Santa was welcomed onto the bandstand by Jack FM DJ Welshy and during a brief chat Santa revealed he liked Eastleigh so much he liked to visit the town during his summer holidays!

Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Tony Noyce said:

“It was great to see so many thousands of local people come along and see the lights switch on and enjoy the free firework display at this great annual event. I really enjoyed being part of this year’s event, meeting so many local people and, of course, switching on the lights.
