A brave youthful Eastleigh side got knocked out of the FA Trophy on Saturday as Ryman Premier Side side Harlow Town were too strong at the Harlow Arena.

With only three experienced players in the squad that included Ross Stearn, Bondz N’Gala and on loan keeper Scott Brown, it was always going to be a tough battle for the young Spitfires.

Tony Lee was among the Eastleigh starters yesterday as it took just over a half hour before the deadlock was broken.

Alex Read opened the scoring after 20 minutes and already hitting the crossbar earlier in the game.

Harlow captain Craig Pope cut back from the box and Read hooked it home in front of goal to the delight of the bumper home crowd.

The lead was doubled 12 minutes later when another cross from Pope reached Joe Benjamin at the back post and the Harlow player made no mistake to put the hosts 2-0 up at half.

Despite a brave effort from the Spitfires in the second half, it remained 2-0 at the end of the match as Martin Allen’s Eastleigh will look to bounce back on Tuesday.

In what will be Eastleigh’s fourth straight cup match, The Spitfires will take on Halifax Town away on Tuesday night in the FA Cup Second Round Replay.
