Eastleigh drop to below mid table after Woking defeat

Martin Allen’s Spitfires dropped to 13th in the Vanarama National league on Saturday as Woking climbed out of the drop zone with a victory despite playing with 10 men for over 20 minutes.

Eastleigh made a strong start but were unable to make it count with Bondz N’Gala among those to see good chances saved by former Spitfire loanee Michael Poke.

Gozie Ugwu punished Eastleigh for their missed chances as the forward nodded home Dennon Lewis’ cross from close range in the 16th minute to notch his 12th goal of the season.

Garry Hill’s side, who beat Torquay last time out, went down to 10 men when Lewis saw red for a second yellow in the 68th minute, but they came through a nervy finish unscathed as Eastleigh pushed for a late equaliser.

Eastleigh couldn’t quite achieve this and the match ended 0-1 at The Silverlake Stadium.

Allen’s men will have to wait two weeks before they look to get back to winning ways as they take on Guiseley away.
