One of the more colourful candidates in Eastleigh’s 2013 by-election has announced he will no longer contest elections the Nottingham Post has reported.
Following the resignation of disgraced MP Chris Huhne, David Bishop stood in the landmark by-election for the Elvis Loves Pets party on a platform that promised “free neutering for Cats and Boris Johnson.”
Despite only handing out 30 leaflets Bishop still finished ahead ol the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC), the English Democrats and Wessex Regionalists.
At the declaration Bishop took to the stage with other candidates clutching a toy dog complete with matching sunglasses to tell the winner, Lib Dem Mike Thornton:
“Chris Huhne did you a favour by resigning.”
The 72 year-old artist and singer has stood in 11 Parliamentary elections – including former PM David Cameron’s Witney constituency. He has been in favour of legalised brothels with OAP discounts and is opposed to HS2.
In 2014 he finished ahead of the Liberal Democrat candidate in Nottingham council election prompting “Elvis beats Lib Dem” national headlines and recently offered to sing “You ain’t nuthin but a hound dog” at Donald Trump’s forthcoming inauguration “for £5000 plus travel and hotel.”
Confirming that he would not be standing for elected office again David Bishop told Eastleigh News that he would still be campaigning to save red telephone boxes in Skegness and to “ban builder’s bum as it upsets old ladies”.
